ABSTRACT
The potential role of flower color in the vield and conıposition of essential oil was investigated in the endemic Centaurea tchihatcheffıi Fisch.&Mey. (Asteraceae). Essential oils obtained bv hvdrodistili ati on fronı different colored flowers of C» tchihatcheffıi w ere separately analvzed bv gas ehromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS), simultaneously. The main constitııent both oils was foıınd as germacrene D (17.6% and 17.4%). The flower color difference w as shown not to play a role in essential oil vield and conıposition.
